Phyl, you were very lucky with that Honda. The do have timing belts or chains and do need to be changed about every 100,000 miles. There are a lot of people that never change them and are ok but there's always the danger that they will just suddenly break as you're driving along and if that happens your engine can be irreparably damaged. Not to mentioned you'd be stranded where you are and might even be in an accident because of your car just suddenly stopping. There are many cars that don't need anything like that..don't know if it's because they don't have a timing belt/chain or another reason but everyone should definitely consult their users manual to find out if that's a needed thing. My vehicles unless I buy them used with a lot of miles already on them don't ever reach the 100,000 mark. Kia recommends changing the TB every 60'000. My ds wanted my Plymouth SUV,,,forget what it was called. Neither of us knew it had a timing belt/chain and he was driving it one day and the chain broke.End of vehicle.
Actually my dh just old me there are two types of timing belt/chains. One type will just break, the other will destroy the engine if it breaks.Either way If the belt breaks it's much more expensive to have it replaced than it is to have it changed while still intact. It usually costs about $1000 to have it replaced... that's a huge expense so I guess it's just a matter of whether or not a person wants to gamble on it not breaking.

Good evening! Nice to see how busy this board has been today. After such a busy day I can only check in and say hi. funny, today I got my brakes fixed and tomorrow I am hoping to get my keyless remote repaired... that seems to be the conversation today.
I really like having it, but there are advantages to having a real key.
CJ- we used to have a Taurus, which was a great car.
See everyone tomorrow.... Ginny

Just read the last page, and we have always opted to replace the timing belt when it was asked for in the literature. It's too risky not to- that is if we have the cash to pay for the repair.

Taurus was always Ford's best selling and probably best car. So for some unknown reason they did away with it. They finally brought back a model called Taurus but it's not the same as the old Taurus. Still I would think they're a good car. I love my Contour. It's a small version of the old Taurus. WEll what I was speculation on the other day about which reply button to use wasn't true. I just checked it out now and it still takes me to the first page so that i can't read what's on the new posts to comment on what was said. Sometimes it goes to that page but most times it doesn't After buying more yarn I had to change my avatar to this one I found Ginny, i was shocked when I found out how much it costs to replace the tb but better to pay than have the while car destroyed or worse or even just having to pay double because it broke. As you said though, depends on if the money is available and if it's not you pray a lot

Hello everyone.
It is 100 here today, very hot and I looked at the forecast and it will get hotter each day and I think by next Wed it will be 109. So I don't think I will be going far. I will stay home with the A/C on. Devin has gone off to spend a couple of days with his Dad. Today, I went to my Knit Wits Gp. and took Devin and now he is off for the weekend. So it will be quiet around here I hope. I worked on a b/blanket I started. It's rowsof granny stitch. So far my edges are straight. I am just using some yarn that I want to get rid off.
I just finished talking to DGD in Florida and she is a talker and I listen. I mailed off her V stitch afghan today and it should get there Monday. She doesn't know what I am sending her. It is a surprise. I am hungry so I am going to find something to eat.
Have a good evening.

Ruth, The heat we get here is a dry heat. if it were humid we would be more than miserable. I have started a b/blanket doing granny rows and so far the edges are straight. I did a lot of practicing this week. I will try and start the afghan for DGD#1 this weekend.
time to close the computer for the night.

hi, ruth don did explain to me about timing chains and belts the other night. I thought they had done away with the chains. we always took the pilot to the dealer to be service. that's probably while it lasted so long. they would do what ever they had to. so if the belt got changed I don't know. don would. I got to ride In my old pilot today. jeana picked us up and took us to breakfast as part of father's day for don. we will be leaving soon for a graduation party. phyl

Good morning dear ladies! I hope you're all having a great day
Phyl, my dh used to change our oil, etc but now vehicles have become so complicated that they need expert maintenance so we've been taking them to the dealer now for about 20 years. They know what needs to be done..well most of the time, we've run into some that did not do a good job. One dealer back in NY forgot to tighten the top of the engine cover so as I drove along oil was spewing out from the head gasket. Sears forgot to bend the cotter pins on the new brake drums. Luckily on that dh checked out their work after we got home. If those pins had fallen out we wouldn't have been able to stop.
Spent several hours today looking at patterns. Then I did a tiny bit of organizing in my craft room. I started a cupcake purse for my youngest dgd last night but made it larger than the pattern called for because the pattern makes a tiny one that maybe would be a good size for about a two year old..maybe 3. I saw someone selling one online..it was very costly.
Mostly what I looked for this morning was crochet cable fingerless gloves and lacy fingerless gloves made with #10 thread. I know my older grandaughters woulld love the lacy ones so will make them each a pair for Christmas. DD likes them too as does her friend, and dgd that will be visiting in Sept liked a pair of cable ones so those are for her.
As I was organizing I went thru my bin of baby blankets that need edging and found that I have more than I thought there. Three different knitted ones are in progress but I'm not sure where I left off on the knitted ones so will just have to wing it and hope for the best. It's a kind of lacy blanket so you have to get the "holes" in the right row. In the 4th row of the pattern is where you yarn over to make the hole. I'm not good at counting rows to be able to tell which row I did last.
Poured rain this morning but is bright and sunny now but quite cool and will be cool for several days then will hit 90.

Happy Saturday everyone,
I am staying home today as it is going to be over 100 so I am going to read or listen and my work on my b/blanket. I am also planning on starting an afghan for DGD#1. I S that's my day. Devin & his Mom are gone for the weekend. Devin is visiting his other DGM and his Dad. He will miss being home because he likes to go in the pool especially when it is hot like today.
Now I am off to get dressed. I will check back later.

Meg, I'd definitely be with air conditioning. One year my db came to visit and it was one of the summers where we had a huge heat wave. Since we don't have a/c we went to a movie to enjoy theirs. Next day we went to the library. It's a dry heat here too but as you know, it's still hot.
Phyl I, too, hope you had or are having a good time at the party.
CJ I hope you're having a good day. Are you out buying a car?
Ginny, yes I hope you're having a quiet relaxing evening.
I'm almost done with the cupcake purse. I put in multi colored pony beads to make it look like sprinkles. If I do say so myself it's really pretty but I with I'd make it even bigger.
See you all tomorrow but I'm sure I'll stop back to see if anyone else posts anything
And happy Father's day to Ginny's dh, Meg's ds, PHyl's dh, and CJ's brothers as well as all the other fathers in your lives
