Is anybody else a fan of period pieces on PBS? We finished watching the final season of The Durrells in Corfu. I am going to miss those crazy characters. It looks like Callum Woodhouse (played Leslie Durrell) is going to be in a new show. It also looks like a new WWII show is coming out. World on Fire with Sean Bean. Will certainly watch that. Also, Sandition, based on Jane Austen's unfinished final novel is coming to PBS. I am a huge Jane Austen fan. Will definitely be watching this one. I was all about "Downton Abbey". Really love those characters. I also watched a few episodes of "Poldark" because I liked Aidan Turner on "Being Human". Not my kind of show, but it's very well made.

quark12000 , Yes to Downton Abbey. Although I don't see myself going to a movie theater to see the movie. :/ I'll wait for it to come to streaming TV. I don't think it will take long. Of course, anything with Maggie Smith in it is worth watching. I started watching Poldark and liked it but for some reason could not get into it. Maybe I'll try it again now that I can stream it on PBS. Maybe it will be easier to watch if I don't forget what happened in the previous episode. LOL

I'm into season 5 of Downton Abbey and I swear I can't stand Mary - she's just so self absorbed and mean!

DotRen, I felt the same way when I watched it. Still loved the show. I was all "go Edith!"

Ok I finished the series and watched the movie - loved it, really. And no Mary is not redeemed, she's still a raging harpy lol

This thread caught me off-guard. I didn't realize it was so old, and there was zazzles. I miss Mike.
I don't think there will be much new TV this fall. Coming to you ... Zoom TV.

We watched some movies. Ad Astra: can a movie be interesting and boring at the same time? Yes. Yes it can. The Vast of Night (amazon prime): kind of had the feel of a college film project based on the Twilight Zone. It wasn't bad. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: Started out thinking I wasn't going to like it, but about 20 minutes in it hooked me.
For anyone that likes Forged in Fire, the current ones are a "beat the judges" set and they're entertaining.

DotRen, We watched The Vast of Night on Thursday. It sure was interesting. I would have liked a little more of a story of what happened after the ending.

I'm going to start watching the new "Perry Mason" on HBO.
I have "Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" recorded to watch. I've been re-watching all 5 seasons of Outlander.

DotRen, Yeah. I thought it was well done. I loved the scenes of the basketball game, especially the cheerleaders in the long skirts. I thought the two main characters were good. It was filmed in Texas except for the switchboard scenes which were filmed at a switchboard museum in Oklahoma. I'm 73 so I loved all of the old cars reminded me of the cars of my youth. The hairstyles and the clothes were also a kick.

DotRen , bbbearsmom , I watched Vast of Night and agree that it seemed more like a college project than a completed film. It seemed unfinished. I read that the ending (or lack of) was done intentionally so you could make your own ending. Hmmm, that didn't work for me. ETA: Vast of Night Ending
