I have a friend who is currently doing her 6 week maintenance program at WW. She was told she must remain between her 2lb up/down limit and not go down below that limit to remain on maintenance. I understand the 2lb up limit but never heard about the 2 lb below? (e.g. Goal 145 ... Was told she must weigh in between 143-147). Last week she actually wore heavier clothes and shoes at weigh-in because she knows she was below 143.)
I haven't done "official 6-week maintenance" since the 90's... What happens if she's below 143? (not sure she asked).

When I made goal you absolutely had to stay above the minimum during the 6 week period. That was so you learn how to maintain. That was in 2009 but I would assume it is still the same.

Same here - the goal established by WW is the healthy weight for your height, etc and they want to make sure that you maintain a healthy weight plus and/or minus.

Ugh, I hate centers that do that! It used to state specifically in the book "above" I haven't checked lately. Is she in a franchise center by any chance?!
I hate to game the system like this but she needs to compare her home scale to the center one (like weigh right before she leaves in same thing, minus shoes whatever she is going to do at center). She can wear jeans, boots, heavy coat, whatever she needs to do to get it up. It is the most ridiculous thing ever!

We're not in a franchised branch. She asked me this question as we were standing in line for weigh-in (lines are long in Jan/Feb) and I was surprised to see her decked out in jewelry and jeans. When she told me that and that she was keeping her shoes on I said "Whaaat?"

Here's an interesting exchange I read on their FB exchange. SMH
Debi Buckner-Gilbert What happens if you lose more weight during the maintenance period? More than 2 pounds... · March 4, 2016 at 1:15pm
Weight Watchers Hi there, Debi! That's a really good question. The way that it works is that in order to achieve Lifetime status, you do need to stick within the 2 pounds of your goal weight in either direction. That being said, some locations are a little more lenien...See More · March 4, 2016 at 1:44pm
Denise Cuningham That happened to me I continued to loose weight because I was never told to add 6 points while on maintainence. When I weighed in the lady who was at the front desk said you have lost too much. After talking to ww leader she eased my mind said add 6 then adjust accordingly. No a good experience with the receptionist. · September 10, 2016 at 10:47pm
Denise Cuningham Thanks that also happened to me was never told u might need to adjust points after I reached my goal weight. .. · September 10, 2016 at 10:50pm
Debi Buckner-Gilbert They wouldn't give me the lifetime membership after I lost too much so I cancelled it Like · Reply · September 11, 2016 at 10:56am

I am getting close to goal and will be going to meetings soon (have always been online only) to make goal and Lifetime. One of my biggest concerns has been that 2 up 2 down rule. I weigh daily and have a 2 lb or so fluctuation. Several people assured me that it will not keep me from proving maintenance but I am pretty sure it varies.
I stopped by my Center to ask questions but did not ask how picky they are. It is silly but my biggest concern. I am close to the five lbs above the goal my doc and I agreed upon but now have to figure in clothes. I was thinking about exactly what Pat's friend is doing to keep within the range.
I am a planner and want to be sure I get to Lifetime. Weird that it is more of a stressor than losing large amounts of weight.

I know there are Lifetimers at my meetings that are below goal ... This 2 lb limit thing has me very confused.
Googled this...
Weight Watchers Lifetime Membership!! ◄◄
What IS a Weight Watchers Lifetime Member?
If you attend Weight Watchers meetings (sorry, WW Online-only members can't attain Lifetime Member status, but read my comments at the end of this post and I'll tell you how you can!) and you reach your WW-approved goal weight, you will switch from "weight loss" mode to a 6 week "maintenance" period. Your daily PointsPlus target will be increased by 6 so that you are no longer losing weight but are maintaining your current weight. After 6 consecutive weeks of paid Meetings membership within 2 pounds of your goal weight, you will be awarded with Lifetime Membership!
If it takes you a little longer to get back to your goal weight, no problem -- as soon as you get back to within 2 pounds of your goal weight, you'll still get your Lifetime Member status. Don't worry, the clock doesn't restart back to week 1 if you are up during your 6 week maintenance period -- you just need to have at least 2 weigh-ins within 2 pounds of your goal weight (your first was the one where you hit your goal weight and the second one is at the 6th week). If you miss it on your 6th weigh-in, but you hit it on your 7th, you've still made Lifetime!
And once you are a Lifetime Member, you are FOREVER a Lifetime Member.
And as a Lifetime Member, you are entitled to FREE meetings and a FREE online eTools account subscription.
► FREE MEETINGS ◄ To get your free meetings, you need to weigh in at your first meeting visit each month. It doesn't matter what day of the month it is.
When you weigh in, if you're no more than 2 pounds over your goal weight AND you also weighed in last month, your meeting visit is free and all remaining visits during the month are free too!
You don't HAVE to weigh-in at any of the remaining meetings during the month, it's up to you. Don't worry, if you happen to be more than 2 pounds over your goal weight at any of those remaining weigh-ins during the month, your meetings are still free -- you've already met the monthly weigh-in requirement earlier in the month.
If you're more than 2 pounds over your goal weight at the first weigh-in of the month, you'll have to pay the weekly fee for that week, and each subsequent week until you get back to within 2 pounds of your goal weight.
Basically the rule is you pay the weekly fee until you're again within 2 pounds of your goal weight, then all remaining meetings during the month are free.
*AND* you can attend meetings for free not just at your regular meeting location, but at ANY Weight Watchers meeting location in the world! Great for support when you're traveling!
► FREE ETOOLS ◄
When you reach Lifetime Member status, your meeting leader or receptionist will give you a voucher with a special online "access code" which is good for eight free weeks of Weight Watchers eTools.
If you are getting close to the expiration of your free eight week subscription, and you are still within 2 pounds of your goal weight at your weigh-in, you may request a new voucher and access code to extend your eTools subscription for an additional eight weeks.
If you let the eight weeks free subscription lapse, the subscription will revert to a $14.95 monthly rate (better than the regular $18.95 monthly rate). But, once you weigh-in and are within 2 pounds of your goal weight, you may request a new voucher and access code to switch your eTools account back to free Lifetime eTools.
WW Online Members: Want to achieve Lifetime status? If you are an Online member, you are not eligible for Lifetime status (because a WW meeting location must weigh you in). You can switch over to a Meetings Membership (or a Monthly Pass membership) if you are at least 5 pounds away from your goal weight. THEN you are eligible to achieve Lifetime status just as if you achieved goal weight while a Meetings member.

I achieved Lifetime in 1991. At that point I don't think there was any restriction on how much you could go over, or under, during the 6 weeks of Maintenance. In fact, after I achieved Lifetime I kept losing and went about 10 pound below my goal. Nothing was said to me. I think I did change my goal, then changed it upwards again. Basically, I didn't learn how to maintain during this time and eventually gained everything and more back.
When I came back to WWers in 2001 once I was within 2 pounds of my goal I was free again. I didn't have to go through official Maintenance. I did go through maintenance on my own, but again, I had no penalty unless I was more than 2 pounds over goal.
I worked for WWer as a receptionist for about 6 years. My understanding was that during the 6 weeks of Maintenance a member's weight could vary. They were not penalized in any way if their weight went over, or under, their goal during that period. It was only the weigh in on the 6th week that mattered, and that is where they had to be no more than 2 pounds over, or under, goal to achieve Lifetime. Since I don't work for WWers any longer I have no idea if that has changed or not. It's been about 4 years since I worked for them.

Luanne that seems to fit with what Pat posted. My doc and I set a goal about 6 lbs over WW rec. She thought that was a good target but also knows that I may eventually try to go lower by 5 or 10 lbs. That would still keep me in the upper end of the "normal" weight range. She wrote me a script to take when I go.
When I went to the center here which is somewhat large, they were very easy to talk to. The receptionist that I talked to was very knowledgeable and helpful. When I told her I was just finding out some info and that I am online only now she emphasized that we are part of the family. She said I could come by for a free weigh in and meeting before changing over. I am going to stop by soon to see how their scale compares to mine. Then I will sign up sometime after that. I am not too excited about paying more for a while so I am holding out.

I agree with luanne's last paragraph....those were the rules when I was working (also about 4 years ago.) Then you could go lower if you wanted to after the 6 weeks were up. I worked for WW's in 2 different parts of the country and the only time I saw lenient receptionists were at travel meetings...I'm not sure if you're on a computer like most are now, if the computer will *grant* LT or not if you are out of the-2/+2 range. My personal feeling is that it is really important to learn how to maintain...not that anyone does in 6 weeks time, but there is so little guidance that's it's a bit of a joke. But at least WW's makes the effort with LT membership and the perks that go along with it. And both times I lost weight since I've been at goal, I was on maintenance points...I realize that is just my story, but I think truly learning the points required to maintain is huge. It's harder on SP because the points/calories being all over the place, but I finally did.

I made Lifetime in 2012. The 6 weeks of maintenance was to learn how many extra points I could add and not gain and to learn how to maintain a steady, stable weight. I kept losing and was in danger of going more than 2 pounds below goal on the sixth week, the one that counts. That would have delayed my making Lifetime. I called WW and they suggested I add dairy to stop the losing. It worked and I made Lifetime on the sixth week. Once you make Lifetime, you cannot weigh in more than 2 pounds ABOVE goal without having to pay. But you can weigh in any amount BELOW goal as long as it's not below the healthy guidelines for your height. I weigh in 7-8 pounds below goal every month. No problem. Free eTools since 2012😄

thyme2 I'm glad you got that good reception and can do that early WI to compare. My home scale is always about .2 below the center, and I definitely like that information before I go to weigh. And really nice that you were told you were part of the family. When I was working it was as if the left and right hand didn't have anything to do with each other; maybe the emphasis on Connect has changed that mindset.
